Renaissace In Kolkata: When......
What is a visitor’s first impression of the “City of Joy”? Whether he openly says it or not I have heard the whisper that West Bengal is an open urinal. If u had any doubts about it open up all your senses during the monsoons. Urinating in public spaces should be made an offence to be fined; public toilets shd be built. Just as the corporate sector has taken upon itself the idea of beautifying islands and pavements directly in its vicinity, it shd set up these public toilets; rotary club and NGOs can also be roped into this project. But not just construction of toilets but maintenance shd also be ensured most definitely OR has waterless toilets come to India
· lane driving shd be encouraged. People visiting kolkata have this aversion to driving in the city due to the mad free for all created due to no sense of lane driving. Drivers shd be fined or licenses confiscated if they are out of line or lane.
· kolkata has to learn to market its culture and itself to survive. Kolkata tourism shd make an active effort to sell India to tourist- domestic and international by innovative ways
· - sell durga puja packages(tie up with transport, police, vip passes and a tourist guide to make durga puja something they will never forget
· -revive places of historical importance(Malda, Vishnupur, Bankura, Nabadwip) rope in the private sector for this. Look at raichak today.
· - make packages to make them experience the unique modes of transport we have in our city: the old and new. A journey undertaken by a drive in a cab on second hooghly bridge, a tram through the maidan , onto a horse drawn carriage to explore Victorea Memorial hall, onto Princep Ghat to babughat by circular rail, travel back and forth by ferry to Dakhineswar, from Babughat to dharmtala, take the metro to Park street walk to Free school street to take a hand drawn rickshaw to experience New Market …………..
· package on the variety of shopping in Kolkata from bangles in Kalighat to shoal handicrafts to bankura horses, to embroidered saries in central avenue to kantha stich work in new market to tangail sarees in Gariahat
· Swabhumi is a good idea of a mall in a rustic Bengal setting with local crafts ;but has to be publicised in pamphlets about West Bengal to market it. International tourist should be diverted there.
· package of all interesting eating joints from tangra to park street, from Bengali cuisine to Mexican(after all Kolkata is cosmopolitan)
· choreograph videos of fusion dances (with the help of Tanusree Shankar and Mamta Shankar) to the backdrop of Rabindra sangeet by Shreya Ghoshal and Shaan. In the videos use Rani Mukherji, Rakhee, Sharmila Tagore, raima Sen, rimi sen, rahul bose, rohit and ronit roy, sangita ghosh……..
· use our lovely Bengali folk music for the same. Market our bangla bands , make them popular through djs in the discotheques. Rope in Ken Ghosh for the picturization of the videos, take advantage of the popularity of Bipasha basu, nayonika chatterjee, the twin models, koena mitra, sushmita chatterji………….innumerable bengalies are there today in the entertainment and media industries.
