Antireservation in India

The anti reservation debate in India is as controversial as the Euthanasia debate. It can be as convincing as you make it out to be depending on which side you are on. The more you debate on it the more are the layers exposed.

But why the debate today? The youth of todays India are moving towards a global economy. And for this caste becomes a non issue. I doubt whether half these kids know which caste they were born into( until n unless their parents have made a daily ritual of reminding them). Hunger strike in kolkata

Friendships and even marriages are cutting across castes and communities. They are happy in their casteless world. They are the ones who are helping India to become financially upbeat. They are the ones to reap the harvest of innovative thinking and hard work.

Then what right does a politician have to drive walls between them.

If he is that concerned about their well being why not build them separate institutions and fund them. Go down to the villages and pull up primary education first ; which are in a deplorable situation today. Where are the data regarding SC, ST, OBC? This is not a concern with only medical students. The whole country’s thinking population should join this protest.

This is a sheer case of bullying by those in power; a dictatorship of a selected few: just because they the politicians feel they would be hacking away at the very voters bank that gives them political legitimacy. It’s a shame that not one politician worth his pound of flesh is on the side of merit, progress and hard work. For how long will we be party to them by remaining silent.

It is a situation like this( government vs people) that should fall in the category of presidential discretion, I feel. Where is our President and a great teacher? what are his views?

There are many people belonging to OBCs who feel humiliated to use the crutches of quota system to get admission, it is really sad to hear these same people now saying bitterly that merit and hard work does not pay in India and looking outside the country to prove their merit.

If you follow my links you will see how the same sentiments are brewing everywhere!

Today the governments announcement that they would go through with the reservation for OBC saw more angry protests in Kolkata. the BT road was blockaded by medical students of Sodepur. Park Circus till BB Ganguly street became unmanageable due to the angry protestors from National Medical College.
What is it about power that makes these politicians deaf and blind to the voices of the very people they represent ? there should be some kind of public accountability of their duties as representation of the people of India.

There was an interesting discussion today on Tara News. Some body was relating about his experiences of the after effects of the quota system in the corporate world. A letter had to be written in a hurry in some public office. Instead of calling for his PA, the GM started typing the letter himself. Later it was found that the PA having been taken from the reservation quota was far wanting in her efficiency.

Another retorted that if in case he were ever to have a serious surgery done on him the first thing he would like to know is whether his physician belonged to the open category or had joined the medical profession through reservation quota. If this was not tragic in the present situation it would definitely be a good post for Laughter is the best Medicine.
